Job Title: Enduro and Gravity Skills Head Coach

Reports To: Program Director/Executive Director

Employment Type: Part-Time/Seasonal

Pay Range: $21 to $25/hour depending on experience and relevant certifications

Contract Period: March 1st to October 1st, approximately 20-25 hours per week.

Benefits: As a seasonal, part time position, this position is not eligible for benefits including

retirement plans, health insurance, parental leave or paid vacation time.

Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and motivated Head Coach to lead our Gravity Programming andEnduro Mountain Bike Team. This role involves developing athletes’ technical skills, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture, and preparing riders for competitive enduro mountain biking. The ideal candidate will inspire young athletes, have experience with coaching technical riding, promote safety, and encourage a lifelong love of mountain biking.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership & Coaching:

○ Plan, organize, and lead team practices, clinics, and race-day activities.

○ Develop and implement training programs tailored to individual and team goals.

○ Provide constructive feedback and guidance to improve riders’ technical and tactical skills.

○ Assist with hiring of gravity/enduro coaching staff

○ Train, schedule and assign staff to gravity and enduro training sessions and events.

  1. Safety & Risk Management:

○ Prioritize safety during all practices, rides, and races.

○ Conduct pre-ride safety checks and teach proper bike maintenance.

○ Follow and enforce all team policies and mountain biking safety standards.

  1. Athlete Development:

○ Mentor athletes on physical conditioning, mental preparation, and sportsmanship.

○ Support riders in setting and achieving personal and competitive goals.

○ Foster a growth mindset and promote teamwork and resilience.

  1. Event & Race Coordination:

○ Coordinate participation in local, regional, and national enduro events.

○ Assist athletes with pre-race preparation, including course previews and strategy.

○ Represent the team positively during races and events.

○ Endure appropriate staff levels for GVYC supported events.

  1. Team Administration:

○ Communicate regularly with parents, athletes, and the program director.

○ Assist in recruitment and onboarding of new riders.

○ Maintain records of training, attendance, and performance.

Qualifications

Experience:

○ Minimum 3 years of mountain biking experience, with a focus on enduro riding.

○ Prior coaching or teaching experience, especially with youth athletes.

○ Not required, but preferably hold a BICP Level 2 or PMBIA Level 1 certification

Skills:

○ Strong technical mountain biking skills and knowledge of enduro racing techniques.

○ Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.

○ Familiarity with trail systems and conditions in the local area.

Certifications:

○ CPR and First Aid certification (required- if not current, must complete within 30 days of hiring).

○ Coaching certifications (e.g., IMBA, NICA, PMBIA) are highly desirable.

○ Other certifications (Safesport, Concussion, etc.) to be completed after hiring.

Other Requirements:

○ Must have a reliable mountain bike and transportation.

○ Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel to races/events.

○ A passion for working with youth and promoting a positive cycling culture.
