Part-time Routes Program Manager
Overview:
Bikepacking Roots is seeking a part-time Routes Program Manager to provide leadership in key aspects of
our Routes Program, with a focus on long-term stewardship of high-quality routes.
The Routes Program Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and our small, collaborative
team to implement the current priorities of our Routes Program. There is an opportunity for future
growth in this role, including leading new bikepacking route development opportunities, pending
organizational growth and/or route development specific funding. This is a flexible, remote position for
an experienced bikepacking route creator interested in supporting Bikepacking Roots’ mission.
Responsibilities
Job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Community Routes Project
● Supporting the ongoing curation of a diverse set of routes all across the US and Canada, of
varying length and difficulty.
○ Strategic outreach to route creators in targeted geographies to fill gaps.
○ Mentoring Regional Stewards who are newer to route creation but interested in
publishing a route in their area.
● Vetting submitted routes per our established evaluation criteria, collaborating with route
creators to finalize all necessary route details, creating route webpages and adding routes to our
interactive ArcGIS map.
● Ongoing engagement with route creators to ensure routes are kept up to date.
Signature Routes
● Leading an update to our process of collaborating with Route Stewards for all segments of BPR’s
Signature Routes.
● Ensuring that Signature Route materials, including online resources and guidebooks, remain up
to date and that key changes are communicated to past route guide purchasers.
● Tracking and communicating key route closures during the riding season for each route due to
fires, construction or other factors, and collaborating with Route Stewards to determine and
publish viable detours.
● Management of forums for information on BPR Signature Routes, such as Route Facebook
Groups or other existing forums.
Additional Responsibilities
● Lead the development and hosting of the quarterly Waypoints Webinar Series, selecting new
topics and presenters in collaboration with the Executive Director.
● Support our ongoing partnerships with Ride with GPS and Far Out Guides, including expansion of
our use of these platforms, supporting new and creative ideas for collaboration, and
improvement of how we organize and share Bikepacking Routes route data.
● Support development of communications materials & projects to promote greater awareness
and use of our routes.
● Assess and further develop mechanisms for route feedback on both our Signature and
Community Routes.
● Collaborate with the Community Programs Manager on aspects of the Regional Stewards
Program related to our Routes Pillar.
● Support the development of potential new route projects and strategic partnerships, as
organizational capacity allows.
Qualifications:
● Passion for and commitment to Bikepacking Roots’ mission.
● Extensive personal experience bikepacking.
● Demonstrated experience in the development of high-quality, curated bikepacking route
resources accessible to a wide range of potential users.
● Experience engaging with public land managers, local communities and other stakeholders
through the process of route creation.
● In depth knowledge of mapping software, including Ride with GPS, GAIA and other tools.
● Cartography background and/or GIS mapping experience with ArcGIS or similar software is
preferred.
● An awareness of current land management issues impacting bikepacking routes is a plus.
● Excellent writing and editing skills and a strong attention to detail.
● Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote environment.
● Graphic design skills to support design of route resources and illustrative maps is a plus.
● Ability to collaborate effectively with BPR staff, our broad network of Route Stewards, and other
external partners.

Compensation & Work Environment:
● Part-time, up to 20 hours per week on average.
● Hourly rate: $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience.
● Fully remote role (US-based) with a highly flexible work schedule.
