The Outdoor Recreation Industry Summit & Celebration is envisioned as an annual flagship event spotlighting the critical role outdoor recreation plays in shaping the Western Slope’s economy, culture, community wellbeing, and public lands. This vibrant, two-day event will unite stakeholders from across the spectrum – industry professionals, public officials, community members, and outdoor rec enthusiasts – in both formal engagement and festive celebration.

  • Title: The Power of The People in the Future of Our Public Lands
  • Description: Unlike any other country in the world, the United States maintains an exceptional public lands system spanning 640 million acres, or roughly one in every four acres. While many people might first think first of national parks, our public lands represent so much more. They play a crucial role in local economies and well-being of communities across the nation, provide food and energy, and offer places to connect, and explore. As visitation grows and challenges from drought, wildfire, and invasive species intensify, our greatest hope lies in the people who care for these lands.

Colorado’s Outdoor Strategy – Tori Manogue & David Whittle, CPW / DNR

  • Title: Utilizing Colorado’s Outdoors Strategy for Regional and Local Planning Efforts
  • Description: Colorado’s Outdoors Strategy advances coordination, tools, and funding to align, prioritize, and implement strategic actions on the landscape for conservation, outdoor recreation, and climate resilience. It also amplifies regionally rooted efforts to address significant and urgent pressures to the outdoors through close collaboration with the Regional Partnerships Initiative. This workshop will focus on connecting recreation industry partners and stakeholders to the statewide Strategy and Resource Hub. Coordinating partners will go through the Resource Hub, which provides complimentary tools and resources that can help inform recreation industry opportunities and challenges.

Yet challenges — from tariffs and declining tourism to shrinking federal resources — are testing the industry’s resilience. I Ling Thompson

is the CEO of the Foundation for America’s Public Lands, the congressionally chartered partner of the Bureau of Land Management. With two decades in global conservation and leadership roles at The Nature Conservancy, Trust for Public Land, and the Outdoor Industry Association, she champions awareness, access, and stewardship of public lands. An outdoor enthusiast, she explores Colorado’s landscapes with her husband and their dogs.

Tori Manogue

is the Western Slope Regional Partnerships Coordinator at Colorado Parks & Wildlife and is based in Grand Junction. She supports the Regional Partnerships Initiative grant program and the coalitions west of the continental divide. Tori graduated from CU Boulder’s Masters in the Environment (MENV) program in 2024 specializing in Sustainability in the Outdoor Industry. Prior to grad school, she has seven years of experience building relationships, collaborating, and managing projects from her time in consulting.

David Whittle

is based in Denver, supporting the Regional Partnerships program with graphic design, communications, and logistics, in this 9-month position as a Program Associate. Before joining CPW, David was the Marketing & Events Intern at Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), where he learned the importance of partnerships in the outdoors and how to open doors for families to take advantage of outdoor activities

Connor Hall

hails from the mountains of Southwest Colorado. During his career he has served as a Senior Advisor to Governor John Hickenlooper and Mayor Michael Bloomberg and helped create billions of dollars in public funding for conservation, climate and more equitable access to nature during his time at the Trust for Public Land. In early 2022, he was appointed by Governor Polis to lead the Colorado Office of Outdoor Recreation Industry. He is an avid outdoorsman, co-founded the Outside Summit and Festival, host of the PBS TV show Colorado Uncharted and proudly serves on a number of nonprofit boards including Better Together Denver, Stand for Courage and the Colorado Outdoor Equity Fund.
