Get to Know our Executive Director

Meet Chandler Smith, our first ever Executive Director, and Colorado native with a zest for life in the great outdoors. Born in Ft. Collins and relocating from Denver in 2018, Chandler and his wife, Renee, ventured to the valley with dreams of community engagement, outdoor adventures, and family life. Now, with two daughters in tow, Chandler has embraced everything from the thrills of mountain biking at Kokopelli, fishing Pleasure Park to working alongside Renee in giving back to the community through their roles at local nonprofits.

Chandler’s introduction to the Western Slope occurred during his youth when he traveled here for soccer tournaments, but his true admiration for the area was cemented during his tenure directing Ride The Rockies. It was then that he fell for the region’s charm and opportunities, reminiscent of his childhood in Ft. Collins. The sense of community, combined with the boundless outdoor rec offerings, convinced him and Renee that the Western Slope was destined to be their home. Far from claiming expertise in any one outdoor discipline, Chandler is a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to recreational activities. Whether it’s fly fishing, biking, hiking, or camping, he’s all in. Family floats on the river, winter sports on the Mesa, or venturing into the world of hunting, Chandler embodies the spirit of adventure and community. As he steps into his role with the ORC, Chandler brings a passion for inclusivity, sustainable growth, and a heartfelt commitment to enhancing our community’s connection with the outdoors. Welcome aboard, Chandler – here’s to many adventures ahead!
