Job Title: Executive Director

Reports To: GVYC Board of Directors/Board Chair

Employment Type: Part-Time/Year Round

Pay Range: $21 to $25/hour depending on experience

Contract Period: April 1st to March 30th

Hours Commitment: Approximately 20-30 hours per week. Hours may fluctuate seasonally

Benefits: As a part time position with flexible hours, this position is not eligible for benefits including retirement plans, health insurance, parental leave or paid vacation time.

Position Overview

Administrative:

  • Meet regularly with the Board
  • Organize, schedule and prepare necessary agenda and paperwork for board meetings monthly
  • Be actively involved with the solicitation of new board members
  • Meet at least weekly with the head coaches during the active GVYC season, which is March through October-November
  • Create, maintain, and implement policies and codes of conduct
  • Obtain and maintain insurance policies (liability, workers comp, auto, directors and officers, etc.)
  • Obtain and maintain permits for all rides, camps and trips
  • Coordinate all aspects of Human Resource functions, including payroll, workers compensation,

unemployment, proper HR paperwork filings, etc.

  • Manage rider registration process with head coaches
  • Manage ordering and sales of GVYC jerseys, hats and other logo items

Managerial:

  • Responsibility for recruiting and supervising GVYC coaches
  • Ensuring coaches are compliant with GVYC coaching requirements
  • Meet regularly with the coaches during the active GVYC season (March to October)
  • Meet with coaches at the end of the season to create a season wrap up/evaluation for the Board

Event Organization and Program Support:

  • Coordinate with head coaches to organize coaches training seminars
  • Organize GVYC events, including parent meetings and other end of season events.

Public Relations:

  • Be available to discuss parents’ concerns and questions that are not addressed by the coaches
  • Advocate for and represent GVYC’s philosophy and mission statement
  • Oversee or assist with communications, social media and GVYC website
  • Advocate for GVYC’s interests (e.g., attending public meetings on topics in which GVYC has an interest,writing letters, attending other bike-related meetings and events)
  • Maintain positive relationships with sponsors and strategic partners (e.g., bike shops, COPMOBA, school district, BLM, City of Grand Junction, City of Fruita, City of Palisade, etc.)

Fundraising:

  • Manage and cultivate sponsorships, grants, fundraising partners and sponsor relations
  • Coordinate with the GVYC Development Committee to create and implement strategies to meet GVYCfundraising goals.

Other:

  • Other duties and tasks as may be directed by Board to further the GVYC programs and mission
  • Fulfill the Director Performance Objectives adopted by the Board

Desired Qualifications & Experience

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, sports management, education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit management, youth sports, outdoor recreation, or a related field.
  • Proven track record in fundraising, grant writing, sponsorship development, and donor relations.
  • Experience managing budgets, financial planning, and organizational growth.
  • Background in mountain biking, cycling, or outdoor youth programs is highly preferred.

Leadership & Management Skills:

  • Strong leadership abilities with experience managing staff, coaches, and volunteers.
  • Ability to create and implement strategic plans to ensure long-term success.
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors and engaging stakeholders.
  • Skilled in fostering a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture.

Community Engagement & Fundraising:

  • Demonstrated success in developing partnerships with local businesses, sponsors, and community organizations.
  • Excellent public speaking and advocacy skills to represent GVYC in the community.
  • Experience in event planning, marketing, and social media outreach.

Personal Qualities & Additional Skills:

  • Passion for youth development, cycling, and outdoor recreation.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit software, donor management systems, and financial tools is a plus.
