North Fruita Desert / 18 Road Expansion
New trails are being constructed at North Fruita Desert, commonly known as 18 Road, totaling 32 miles upon completion. This development stems from an extensive planning process that commenced in 2018 when the City of Fruita received a planning grant from Colorado Parks and Wildlife to assess the conditions at 18 Road and strategize for the future. The finalized master plan outlined various enhancements including parking lot upgrades, expanded camping facilities, additional restroom facilities, and significant trail improvements.
The majority of these enhancements have already been implemented, with approximately 20 miles of new trails already accessible for riding. While the names of these trails have yet to be determined, temporary signage will soon be installed to solicit public input on potential names. Moreover, plans are underway to completely repave 18 Road itself, thereby concluding the entire initiative. This project has been the result of a robust collaboration involving Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the City of Fruita, the Bureau of Land Management, Mesa County Public Health, COPMOBA, Over the Edge Sports, and the Greater Grand Junction Sports Commission.
